Joan Francioni received the first Ph.D. in Computer Science awarded by Florida State University in 1981. She worked for two years in industry at Litton Data Systems before beginning her career as a professor. Prior to coming to WSU, she taught at Florida State University, Michigan Technological University and the University of Louisiana in Lafayette, and she worked for one year at the North Carolina Supercomputing Center as a visiting scientist. She started at WSU as a Full Professor in 1998.
